Interior Design

Picture of the Day] Interior Design Concept

Mood] Better

Weather] Cold again! low 30s.

Quote of the Day] "Either I've been missing something or nothing has been going on."

First of all, update on Dr. Who! XD Here are some links to a charity special short they did. Pretty cute. :) It's divided into part one and part two. So enjoy that! YAY! Also another student ambassador and I have uploaded tons of photos onto our IIT Undergraduate Admission flickr account, so you can check that out if you'd like! Other than that, pretty much the same old same old. Working hard now on developing interior design for my hotel! Here is a picture of a layout I did on the floor. It's going to get condensed onto two boards, 18" x 24" each. Also, the images are not quite right, so some are probably gonna get thrown out altogether. We'll see.

My interior design concept is inspired by the idea of discovery and wonderment. I thought it would be interesting if there were many interactive elements to the interior in the rooms as well as in the public spaces. Also, I thought it would be good if people were able to interact not only physically but mentally and aesthetically, so I think a lot of interesting art pieces and special walls would be good to incorporate. It's difficult to find fabrics and colours that will match well with the environment/architectural design. :/ I'll keep you posted.

WHOO,
Jaye

Back to Work - A Bit of Fry & Laurie

Picture of the Day] Probably one of the best of BBC.

Mood] Sick

Weather] Partly Cloudy, High 59 F

Quote of the Day] "
If you haven't found something strange during the day, it hasn't been much of a day."

So I have been shamelessly addicted to British things for a while, as you might've noticed. Recently I have been indulging in "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" which is by far one of the most hilarious things everrrrr. You might recognize Stephen Fry as being Mr. Dietrich from V for Vendetta and Hugh Laurie from the TV-series House. Well think about how awesome they are in those x 50 bajillion and half their current age! That's pretty much what it's like. Awesome British humour, sketch comedy, short parts, lots of music and even guest stars like Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge from the recent Harry Potter movies). SO MUCH FUN! Anyway, that's my recent recommendation.

Cheers,
Jaye

Spring Break - Wedding Planning

Picture of the Day] Croquembouche - French cake (my friend's aunt wants her to get one of these for her wedding instead of a traditional cake. We both went, "Ummm......no.")

Mood] Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Weather] Cold and flurries now!?

Quote of the Day] "Bear in mind that you should conduct yourself in life as at a feast."

So my plan for Spring Break is to get some things done! REALLY! I am planning on entering an essay contest here at IIT, so I need to revise the paper that I wrote last semester for my Shakespeare class! Don't know if I mentioned it before, but I wrote a paper on Shakespeare's history/tragedy/revenge play called Titus Andronicus. Here were last year's winners: http://www.iit.edu/csl/hum/announcements/writing_contest_winners_2010.shtml . I hope that I have a chance at winning! There are cash prizes in the form of Barnes/Nobles Bookstore gift cards I think.

Other items on spring break include going to Seattle to try and help my friend plan her wedding! We'll be checking out photographers, eateries (bakery places), the church, and dresses for the bridesmaids. It'll hopefully be very fun and eventful! I haven't been to Seattle before and I'm kind of scared. I haven't been on a plane for a while, but I know that will be fun. I'll be flying out soon, so I need to definitely pack!!! Then it's writing up music and preparing things for acappella when I get back. Our concert is Friday, April 15th! SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! And be prepared to pull up the live stream! :D

Over and out,
Jaye

Midterms

Picture of the Day] Wish I could do pdfs. REALLY I do.

Mood] Headache....

Weather] Sunny, high 38

Currently] In the office

Quote of the Day] "
Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others."

So I have midterms coming up. This is something that happens every semester so I have no idea why I am so surprised, but I am just not feeling it. I can't believe it's already half way through the semester and at the same time, it feels like it should be far past the halfway point as well. I have been plugging away at working on my boutique hotel design. It is turning out CRAZY. My floor plans are completely off the wall! I started out with such a strong system of determining the sizes and shapes of the rooms that when it came down to it, the building really started reading..in my opinion, as very very busy and non-architectural at all! My goal is to remedy this. Midterm presentation for studio is this coming Wednesday so I need to get on it! Not to mention I have two other midterms to study for (Psych and Landscape).

Required for Midterm:

  • all floor plans (basement, ground, 1st, 2nd, 3rd)
  • site plan
  • structural plan
  • relevant section through stairs
  • elevations
  • concept board
  • rough 3D model of the building in a photo
  • program filled out with square footage values
I think that's all....

Wiggin' out,
Jaye

LINK

Picture of the Day] Actually just a link!!! CRAZY!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkTrG-gpIzE

Mood]Tired

Weather] Warmer, high 30s.

Currently] In the office

Quote of the Day] "
What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do."

So first off my link is a trailer for the movie Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal. It is pretty
interesting looking, but maybe super cheesy. YAY TECHNOLOGY! Anyway, I point it out because in the trailer, there is footage of the Red Line L train exploding in front of Main Building, which is our financial building on campus. It looks pretty amazing. XD Also later when it pans/flies out, you see the L, Dan Ryan Expressway, the Loop in the distance, and then Main Building relocated on 31st street in the middle of our soccer field (it is actually situated on 33rd street with buildings all around). So I thought itw as hilarious and weird.

Secondly, I wanted to say how I am terribly frustrated with myself and the lack of exercise I do. >.o I am working stay healthy while I'm at school, but it is soooo difficult. I am hoping that I may be more motivated as it gets warmer.

Annoyed,
Jaye
